Before you create the actual location records, you should create the different types of locations that you deal with. For example, a restaurant chain may want to create a Location Type called STORE to assign to the different restaurant locations, a type called SUPPLIERS to assign to companies that provide supplies to these locations, and a type named MAINTENANCE to assign to companies who perform maintenance on the equipment in these restaurants.
To define labels for different types of locations:
- From the main menu, select System > System Setup > Location Types. All currently defined location types are listed here alphabetically.
- Click the NEW button.
- Enter the name of the new Location Type. It's a good practice to always enter a unique and descriptive name.
- By default, the Location Type is ACTIVE. If you want the new Location Type to be inactive, remove the check from the ACTIVE checkbox. Note that when creating a new Location, only Location Types that are designated as ACTIVE are available for selection.
- Click the UPDATE button.
The new Location Type is added to the list.
If more than one location type exists, when you create a new location you will be asked to specify the location type of the new location. If only one location type exists, all new locations are automatically assigned that location type.
To delete a location type, click the selection box beside the Location Type you want to delete, then click the DELETE button. Note that you may not delete a Location Type that is currently associated with a location.
To edit the name of a location type, click the Edit pencil beside the Location Type, then simply change the name and click the UPDATE button.
